New Recipe: Sweet Chilli Hot Smoked Mackerel Pate

If you have family and friends coming over for dinner and you want to give them the wow factor, try out our own Sweet Chilli Hot Smoked Mackerel Pate recipe. Ideal as canapes, starters or simply to share around a table.

Our brand ambassador and Donegal chef, Brian McDermott, brought our own recipe to life to show you just how simple it is.

INGREDIENTS (will make 670g to 700g):


  1. Ensure all work areas, surfaces and equipment is clean, sanitized and fit for purpose
  2. Prepare the mackerel by removing the packaging
  3. Prepare the mackerel by removing the skin
  4. Cut the pinbone out by slicing on either side
  5. Break the mackerel into small chunks
  6. Weigh 500g Mackerel
  7. Mix roughly to break down the larger pieces
  8. Add 2 tablespoons of Jif Lemon Juice
  9. Add 75g Mayonnaise
  10. Add 75g Cream Cheese
  11. Add 75g Blenders Sweet Chilli Sauce
  12. Mix roughly with fingers or spatula
  13. Place in the blender
  14. Blend until desired consistency is achieved
  15. Prepare piping bag
  16. Using a spatula transfer mix into piping bag
  17. Twist or tie the top tightly
  18. Using scissors cut the tip of the piping bag
  19. Pipe the mix into suitable containers starting at the Outter ring and working into centre filling all gaps
  20. Weigh each container to desired weight
  21. Lid containers
